Lucas Torreira started his senior career at Pescara in Serie B in 2014. He only made 5 appearances for them before he was transferred to Sampdoria for 1.5 million euros. He did, in fact, stay on loan for the remainder of the 2015/16 season to get first team exposure in which he made 29 appearances, netting 4 before going to Sampdoria. He was an absolute star in Sampdoria, score 4 times in 3 seasons while being played further back as a defensive midfielder. In his 71 appearances for Sampdoria, he was beginning to look like a potential world class midfielder if he stayed on track.
the 23-year-old Uruguayan made the move to the Premier League in the summer of 2018. The former Sampdoria player cost Arsenal upwards of 22 million euros, which if you think about how bloated player prices are nowadays, it’s a steal. Soon after he transferred to Arsenal, he was priced at around 50 million euros.
Torreira has been averaging 1.7 tackles a game, which isn’t as high as other players but considering he’s only played as a regular central midfielder alongside Xhaka or Guendouzi, those statistics are very good. Torreiras’ most exceptional performances came against the Spurs in the Premier League where Arsenal won 4-2 with Lucas scoring a beautiful finish to put the game to bed in the 77th minute. Torreira is one of the players that looks to be the future of Arsenal and to hopefully stay with the club to become a franchise esc player.
