Following a tough 0-1 home loss against Saint Louis FC, Nashville SC is looking to bounce back strong in next weeks matchup vs the New York Red Bulls Reserves in New Jersey.

The loss was very surprising given that Nashville contained possession 62% of the time and kicked a total of 12 “Coca-Cola” corner kicks. It was just “one of those games” for the squad where it felt seemingly impossible to find the net. That being said, there were many positives that the Nashville SC squad can take out of this. One being the emergence of Kharlton Belmar, forward out of Virginia Commonwealth University(VCU).
Belmar is just one of those players you love to watch run the pitch. The mix of speed and skill he contains is almost unguardable in a 1 v 1 situation, making him a threat every time he touches the ball. Throughout the Nashville/Saint Louis match, he was by far the most electrifying player in the game, receiving “ouus” and “ahhs” nearly every time he made a move. If he continues playing at an MLS like level, I see no reason why Nashville SC wouldn’t sign him for next years MLS squad.
In Belmar’s 4 years at VCU, he constructed a solid stat-line and improved year by year. In his 76 matches played, Belmar racked up 18 goals while dispersing 5 assists. In his Junior and Senior year, he was an All-Atlantic 10 First Team Selection (2013, 2014).
Year 1 (2015)-Rookie Sensation
Belmar surprised A LOT of people in his first year in the USL while playing for the Portland Timbers 2. In 28 appearances, he scored a team-high 12 goals and gave out 3 assists, which led to him winning the honors of USL Rookie of the Year. At just 22 years old, Belmar was already looking like a future MLS/USL star.

Year 2 (2016)-Sophomore Slump
In Belmar’s second year with the Portland Timber’s USL affiliate, he only found the net 3 times while dishing out 3 assists. No, this was not a “bad” season of any means, it was just down from his sensational rookie season.

Year 3 (2017)-The Return
The 2017 season was HUGE for the career of Kharlton Belmar. He Made one MLS appearance and one U.S. Open Cup appearance with Sporting KC. He played 32 games with 25 starts for the Swope Park Rangers for the remainder of the season. Belmar found the net a CLUB RECORD 15 times while dishing out 3 assists.
If you subtract PKs, no player in @USL has scored more ⚽️ this year than @Kharltonbelmar 💪

Year 4 (2018)-USL History
Last season, Belmar Made four MLS appearances for Sporting KC in which he netted one goal along with an assist in the U.S. Open Cup. He also started 22 games for Swope Park while scoring 11 goals, putting him at 12th all-time scorer in USL history. This season was a trophy case filler for the now veteran player and Nashville took notice.
ICYMI: @KharltonBelmar became the @SwopeRangers all-time leading scorer last night with a 92nd minute game winner. Belmar bagged two goals AND two assists in SPR's 4-3 win, including this ridiculous rabona to set up @DiegoRubio_. #RNOvSPR pic.twitter.com/aAaPkAy18L

The Future is Bright!
With Nashville SC already signing Daniel Rios and Cameron Lancaster to MLS deals, it would not be surprising if they signed Belmar here soon. The city of Nashville has been patiently waiting for a REAL star athlete they can cheer on, and we believe Kharlton Belmar has all the characteristics to be one.
