Why Curry Should have Won 2018 NBA Finals MVP

Nba.com

The 2018 NBA Finals was definitely a forgettable one for many Cavs fans and for anyone who is not a Warriors fan. The Warriors dominated the Cleveland Cavaliers sweeping them 4-0 in an uncompetitive Finals matchup. It was both teams 4th time meeting one another in the finals, which has never been done before. While Game 1 and Game 3 were close, we all assumed who was gonna come out of the series victorious. The main question of the 2018 Finals was who deserved Finals MVP.

Durant vs Curry

Kevin Durant averaged 28.8 points on a 52% Field Goal percentage while Steph Curry averaged 27.5 points on 40% Field Goal percentage. When you look at the numbers, it’s clear Kevin Durant absolutely should have won Finals MVP but the Warriors were way more efficient with Curry on the floor. Curry had 29 points in Game 1, and 33 in Game 2 where he had 9 3’s(most in finals history). In Game 3, KD pretty much ended all hope of Curry winning Finals MVP.  Curry had a rough night shooting finishing with only 11 points although he did hit a clutch three at the end which put the Warriors up 101-98 with less then 2 minutes to go in the game. In the 4th and final game of the series, Curry had an amazing performance, hitting shot after shot. He finished with 37 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assist. While the 2018 Finals may have not been the most competitive or most exciting Series, there was definitely a lot of historical moments such as Lebron’s 51 point Game 1, Curry hitting 9 threes to break the record and the Warriors winning back to back titles. Whether or not you think Curry deserved the MVP, you have to give it to Kevin Durant for having an amazing series and getting his 2nd Championship ring.
