With 1 game left on the regular season schedule, the Celtics have finally made a move with their 15th roster spot, signing Jonathan Gibson.
We have signed Jonathon Gibson. He will wear number 8. https://t.co/W2siUgLEg9

Jonathan Gibson has hopped around the globe (literally) during his career, playing for teams in Turkey, Israel, Italy, Iran, and China. Now, however, Jonathan Gibson finds himself back in the NBA, with the Celtics, who have now given him a 3rd stint. The two previous came with the Celtics Summer League team in 2012 and the Celtics team of last year, when he signed a 10-day contract at the end of the season. In 4 games last season with the Celtics, Gibson averaged 8.5ppg, 0.8rpg, and 1.0apg on 60.9% shooting from the field and 50.0% shooting from beyond the arc, solid numbers for a 10-day player. These numbers, nonetheless, would be blown out by his numbers in China, playing most recently for the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles, where he averaged 33.1ppg, 6.1rpg, 3.5apg, and 1.3spg on 46.1% shooting from the floor and 39.0% shooting from 3.
If we look at Jonathan Gibson’s ability on the court, we can see why Danny Ainge and the Celtics have been so interested. He’s a great ball handler, he’s quick, he can blow by guys, get to the rim, knock down shots, and his shot form is one of the fastest I’ve ever seen. What Gibson brings to the Celtics in the playoffs, assuming he’s still on the roster by then, is still unknown. Gibson can give you a quick bucket off the bench, but his defense, which is important come playoff time, is still in question. Nevertheless, Jonathan Gibson should be an interesting player to watch while he’s on the court.
