After a shocking turn of events, Magic Johnson has stepped down as President of Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Lakers. Regardless of what he may have done good or bad for the franchise as an executive, it is still shocking.
Lakers coaching staff fully expected to be fired in hours after the final game of the season. They had believed they were gone for months. Now? Magic quits in public, saying he's too scared to tell Jeanie Buss face-to-face. What an embarrassing episode for a historic franchise.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) April 10, 2019
Magic Johnson, a legend in his own right, one of the greatest Lakers of all time. Beloved as a person, activist, and player.
Magic Johnson had a plan. A plan to bring Lakers glory. He was able to bring arguably the greatest player of all time to the purple and gold in Lebron James. But, the moves after were questionable. Bringing in veterans that didn’t fit Lebron. Proceeding to handle the young core as assets instead of treating them properly. Not showing up to the facility every day as an executive. It’s not what the President of Basketball Operations should do.

It’s a mess right now in Laker land. It really is. But a team with one of the top players in the league, a promising young core, and max cap space in free agency should make this a very attractive job.
As for Magic, he’s had his faults as an executive. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that he is very much a part of the Laker family still. Much love to Magic Johnson. Wishing you success!
