Saints Talk: 2019 NFL Draft Analysis
The Saints 2019 NFL Draft wasn’t the best they’ve had but they improved several holes within their team. They got a MASSIVE steal in Florida Safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. I’ll go in depth into all of the draft selections we’ve taken.

ROUND 2 PICK 48 (Via Dolphins): Texas A&M Center Erik McCoy

I love this selection. The Saints traded up from No. 62 to 48 with the Dolphins and gave up their 2020 2nd round pick to get a 4th round pick back to select
Erik McCoy. McCoy was the second best Center in this draft class, just behind Vikings selection Garrett Bradbury. Some people criticize this pick because we signed former Vikings G/C Nick Easton, yet, we could place Easton at his primary position, guard, and let McCoy start right away. McCoy only gave up ONE sack in his whole collegiate career at Texas A&M. He’ll be a great piece to the Saints offense.

ROUND 4 PICK 105 (Via Jets): Florida Safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
The Saints, once again, traded up to select Florida Safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. Gardner-Johnson was selected 105th overall, yet he was projected to go in the second round. When the Saints saw him on the board, they couldn’t help but to pull the trigger and trade up for him. The Saints could utilize him at the nickel corner position because of his frame yet he’s a free safety. At Florida, he recorded 9 total INT’s, 3 of them going back for 6!

ROUND 6 PICK 177: Rutgers Safety Saquan Hampton
The Saints saw promise in Saquan Hampton so decided to select him with the draft pick they got from the Teddy Bridgewater trade with the Jets.

ROUND 7 PICK 231: Notre Dame TE Alizé Mack
Alizé Mack is a big body TE at 6’5″ 247lbs. At Notre Dame, he had 716 yards for 4 touchdowns. He’s a very solid selection for the Saints.

ROUND 7 PICK 244: Idaho LB Kaden Elliss

Joshua Dahl – USA TODAY
The former Idaho Linebacker Kaden Elliss had a total of 9 sacks and 4 INT’s in his collegiate career. Mickey Loomis said he hopes Elliss can learn other positions as he briefly played TE but didn’t record any stats.
