Timberwolves Talk: Minnesota receives No. 11 pick in 2019 NBA Draft

Via Pioneer Press

The ping pong balls have stop dropping, and the Minnesota Timberwolves walk away with the No. 11 pick in this year’s NBA Draft. This means that the Timberwolves have fallen in the NBA Draft. The most likely pick for Minnesota was the No. 10 pick, having a 65.9% chance to land the tenth pick. The second most likely pick was, indeed, the eleventh overall pick, having an 18.9% chance to land this pick. Here is the complete list of the chances of Minnesota receiving one of the picks they could possibly land:

No. 1: 3%

No. 2: 3.3%

No. 4: 4.0%

No. 10: 65.9

No. 11: 18.9%*

No. 12: 1.2%

This also marks the continuation of the Timberwolves drought in the NBA Lottery. Minnesota has NEVER moved up from their projected spot; they just so happened to be projected to take the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. In addition to the eleventh pick, Minnesota also owns the No. 43 overall pick. Last year, the Timberwolves selected Georgia Tech’s Josh Okogie with pick No. 20 and Ohio State’s Keita Bates-Diop with pick No. 48.

Now that we officially know where each team will be picking in the Draft, we can create more accurate mock drafts. I believe that the Timberwolves will select Gonzaga’s Brandon Clarke with the eleventh pick. While with the Bulldogs, Clarke averaged about 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per outing. His contributions were a major reason that the Gonzaga Bulldogs went 16-0 in conference play. The 6’8″ PF would give the Timberwolves something they need: a proven contributor who can step up when called upon.

Although many fans are bummed that Zion will not be wearing a Timberwolves jersey, many great players have been selected with the No. 11 overall pick over the years. Some great former No. 11 overall picks include Klay Thompson, Reggie Miller, and Allan Houston. This will be the first draft under recently-hired President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas, who also represented the Timberwolves at the NBA Lottery.
