Yankees, Red Sox Play First MLB Series in London

Image via Max Schreiber/USA TODAY Sports

The MLB hosted its first ever London series, starting June 29th, 2019, and the first game did not disappoint. The Boston Red Sox played the New York Yankees and the two teams combined for a whopping 30 runs, 37 hits, including 10 doubles and 6 home runs. The game lasted 4 hours and 45 minutes, missing the record for a nine inning game by 4 minutes, which was also set by the two teams in 2006. The final score was 17-13 Yankees.

The second game did not match or eclipse the run count of the first, but it did not disappoint. The Yankees won 12-8, sweeping the short two game series, with both teams combining for 28 hits.

The series was great for Major League Baseball, and the show the two teams put on only made the game more appealing to the international audience as the MLB attempts to expand its borders.

See you next year London!

Malcolm Wilson is an incoming freshman that will attend Georgetown University. Wilson is a 6’11 center he is currently ranked as a three star prospect. Below are his views on different topics about Georgetown, Patrick Ewing, and the college game.

Q: Why Georgetown?

“I chose Georgetown because of the great athletic and academic opportunities.”

Q: How is your relationship with Patrick Ewing and how did that play into your decision to attend Georgetown?

“Coach Ewing and I have a great relationship which definitely played a role into my recruiting.”

Q: What are some strengths in your game and what do you need to improve on?

“The strengths of my game is that I run the floor well and play good defense. My biggest weakness right now is my strength. When that improves I see myself becoming a much better player on both sides of the ball.

Q: Talk is swirling around that possibly may redshirt are you ok with redshirting and would you if asked?

“We have not discussed redshirting.”

Q: Finally what is going to be the most difficult for you when you make this transition to the college game?

“One of the most difficult things is getting used to playing a much faster game with a shot clock and play much more physical basketball than on the high school level.”

Power Ranking the teams at Copa America after the group stage

(Image: GETTY)

Now that the group stage is over its time to rank these teams 1-12.

1.) Brazil– They still are the most talented team and finished the group stage unbeaten, they face Paraguay in the quarterfinals.

2.) Uruguay– They got a huge win over Chile and have been in great form to start this cup, they take on Peru next game.

3.) Colombia– The only team to win all of their games, and they did it without conceding a goal. Colombia faces their first challenge as they have a date with Chile next.

4.) Chile– The defending champs got 6 points however a disappointing loss to Uruguay which will cost them as now they have to face the streaking Colombians.

5.) Argentina– Argentina limped through the group stage but they have more than enough talent to make some noise in the knockout stage. Argentina has an interesting match-up with Venezuela upcoming.

6.) Venezuela– Venezuela has impressed as they enter the knockout stage unbeaten, if they can continue their play they can certainly upset Argentina in their next game.

7.) Peru– Peru got trashed by favorites Brazil 5-0 but a win over Bolivia and a draw against Venezuela allows them to advance as the best third place team. They face Uruguay in their next match-up.

8.) Paraguay– Paraguay is lucky to advance with only 2 points but now they must prove they deserve to advance as they take on the hosts Brazil.

9.) Japan– Besides earning a draw against Uruguay their run was underwhelming after advancing to the round of 16 in last years World Cup.

10.) Qatar– Qatar only earned one point but they had moments where they played good soccer which is encouraging for their future in next years Copa America, and eventually the 2022 World Cup.

11.) Ecuador– Ecuador stole a point against Japan that kept the Japanese out of the quarterfinals but besides that their play this tournament was poor.

12.) Bolivia– Bolivia was the only team to not earn any points, as they conceded 3 goals in every game they played in, they must improve if they want to earn respect from their Conmebol counterparts.
