Strengths

  • Good finisher around the rim, gets a lot of easy baskets and dunks
  • Shot 75% on non post-ups and 58% on post-ups
  • Good scorer out of the pick and roll
  • Great length and a good leaper, excels at crashing the glass and converting put back opportunities
  • Can run the floor and has great mobility and athleticism for his size/length
  • His agility and length give him potential as a defender

Weaknesses

  • Has basically no outside game — below average shooter and didn’t attempt a single three-pointer in college
  • Doesn’t have great touch on his inside or outside shots
  • Gets to the line a good amount, but only makes 59% of his free throws
  • Below average passer, only averaged 0.7 assists
  • Struggles defensively when going up against smaller guards
  • Must improve his toughness and mentality

Grade for Bucks: D+

Gafford is the right position for the Bucks, but not really the right fit. His inability to score from the outside will cause him to struggle with his transition to the NBA right away. The Bucks, as seen with Brook Lopez last year, are at their best with a big man who can shoot and space the floor for Giannis, and Gafford doesn’t have that floor spacing potential. He has potential to be a rim runner and oop specialist, but isn’t the type of big man that the Bucks need, as he seems like a slightly more athletic John Henson. I would expect the Bucks to take someone else with their first round selection.
