The Saints edged past the Texans, 30-28, in a game for the ages! Saints kicker Wil Lutz nailed a 58 yard field goal with no time remaining to take the lead!
There isn’t anyway to sugarcoat this, but the Saints played utterly terrible in the first half. Heading into halftime, the Saints were down 14-3. However, in the second half, we scored 27 points to win the game!
Brees had a great game, throwing for 370 yards and two touchdowns! He did throw an interception in the red zone in the first half. Brees did finish the night with a 74.4% completion percentage, as usual.
Brees also wasn’t shy sharing the ball around, totaling 8 different receivers, including two over 100 yards receiving; Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn Jr.
The Saints also provided Brees great pass blocking, only giving up one sack. The Texans star pass rusher and outstanding guy JJ Watt, failed to record a sack or a tackle for the first time in his 105 game career. Saints young right tackle Ryan Ramczyk was working on Watt all night.
The Saints defense struggled all game. The Texans were clearly attacking the weaker cornerbacks on our team, Eli Apple and PJ WIlliams.
Apple and Williams gave up huge plays and touchdowns. They need to improve on getting their head turned back towards the quarterback and playing the ball, instead of having their back to it.
Overall, the MVP of the game goes to Drew Brees and Wil Lutz. Brees was surgical to get the Saints back into field goal range after it appeared the Texans put us away late. Lutz nailed a new career long 58-yard field goal to seal the deal for the Saints.
