In Sunday’s NFC Championship rematch against the Rams, future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees injured his throwing hand. Brees was attempting a 3rd down pass to Jared Cook when his hand hit 2x DPOTY Aaron Donald’s hand. Brees proceeded to leave the game and gave the ropes to Teddy Bridgewater. The Saints did in fact end up losing to the Rams, 27-9.
With Brees out for 6 weeks, it is up to Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill to get the job done. Bridgewater will have big shoes to fill, yet he does have a lot of elite playmakers around him.
Bridgewater must get Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray going early on. The next few opponents the Saints face are not a cakewalk by any means, with or without Brees.
The next 6 weeks, the Saints schedule goes as followed:
- @ Seattle Seahawks
- Dallas Cowboys
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- @ Jacksonville Jaguars
- @ Chicago Bears
- Arizona Cardinals
Brees will return during the Saints bye week if everything goes as planned. This gives him another week of recovery to return to the Superdome to face the Falcons. My analysis is if Bridgewater can have our record at 5-3 or better, Brees can make a late season playoff push.
